Responsibilities of this non-tenure track, nine month position (with summer teaching possibly available) are primarily in teaching, with some service as physics lab coordinator. This is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Physics position (and may be similar to positions called Lecturer of Physics at some other universities). More specifically, duties include the equivalent of teaching 12 credit hours per semester in physics and possibly introductory astronomy and mathematics courses (including some labs); holding five regular office hours per week for students and fulfilling basic service duties to program, college, university and/or profession. Teaching responsibilities include preparing and presenting course and/or lab materials; administering appropriate tests; evaluating student outcomes; preparing, administering and grading assignments; and assigning final grades. The position also involves participation in other departmental service activities, and research as assigned. For this position, some reduction in teaching load (approximately 3-5 credit hours per semester) will be provided for serving as physics lab coordinator. This includes supervising and executing the setting up and taking down of equipment used in scheduled physics labs; ensuring each lab station is in working order; supervising and training student employees; overseeing the organization of physics labs and the stockroom; developing and maintaining inventory lists; and the procuring of new or replacement equipment.
Primary Duties Teach 15-18 credit hours per year of baccalaureate-level courses and/or labs in physics, and possibly astronomy and mathematics courses; prepare and present course materials; administer appropriate tests; evaluate student outcomes; prepare, administer and grade assignments; assign final grades.
Serve as lab coordinator and oversee physics stockroom; this includes supervising and executing the setting up and taking down of equipment used in scheduled physics labs; ensuring each lab station is in working order; supervising and training student employees; overseeing the organization of physics labs and the stockroom; developing and maintaining inventory lists; and the procuring of new or replacement equipment.
Participate in other departmental activities, including engaging in scholarly activity that enhances curricular offerings, and possibly supporting current levels of basic or applied research, or assisting with pursuit of external funding, or providing opportunities for student research or internship, and generally supporting the standing of faculty and programs amongst peers in their discipline. Activities recognized as scholarship should involve peer evaluation and/or dissemination.
Participate in the self-governance of department/college/University, contributing to the professional service responsibility of the University with the local community and/or the service needs of professional organizations within the discipline, and academic advising.
Salary Range: $51,200 to $57,000 - Additional compensation may be available for summer teaching.

Doctoral degree in physics or closely related field, or ABD with doctoral degree conferral by August 10th, 2025.
