The Division of Medical Physics in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Mayo Clinic's campus in Rochester, Minnesota, invites applications for positions in our CAMPEP-accredited clinical medical physics residency. Individuals will receive training in all essential aspects of clinical radiation oncology physics as outlined by the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM), the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Physics Education Programs (CAMPEP), and required for American Board of Radiology (ABR) certification in Medical Physics. The 3-year residency commences on July 1, 2025, and also includes clinical research effort under the supervision of one of the faculty members.
Application Process: This program participates in the MedPhys Match and will only consider applicants who have registered with that program and apply through the AAPM Medical Physics Residency Application Program (MP-RAP). You can enter your information into MP-RAP whenever it is convenient, and your application can be submitted after obtaining your MedPhys Match registration number. The deadline for applications is December 17, 2024. Preliminary virtual interviews will be done in mid-January. Final virtual interviews will be held on February 3, 4, 6, and 7, 2025. Requirements: A Ph.D. in medical physics, physics, or related discipline; the desire to impact and improve patient care through your efforts in clinical medical physics; research skills including organization, data acquisition and analysis, software development and documentation; excellent communication skills, and the ability to interact with patients and other healthcare professionals.
Environment: The successful candidates will join the Division of Medical Physics with more than 50 faculty members and up to 9 clinical medical physics residents. The Medical Physics Division supports all aspects of the clinical radiation oncology program, research and graduate education, at Mayo Clinic's campus in Rochester, Minnesota. This campus has 3 Varian TrueBeam linear accelerators, all with advanced image guidance and SBRT capabilities; 2 Varian Ethos systems; 1 Varian Edge; 2 intraoperative linear accelerators, including a Mobetron; a Leksell Gamma Knife Icon unit; a Brainlab ExacTrac system; a VariSource HDR afterloader; 2 Bravos HDR afterloaders; 7 CT simulators (2 dedicated to brachytherapy); and an in-department 3T MRI. Five satellite facilities each have 1-2 linear accelerators and CT-simulation capabilities. The residency also includes a 6-month proton therapy rotation in a 4-gantry Hitachi Probeat pencil beam scanning proton therapy facility. Mayo Clinic is also building an additional two-room proton beam expansion facility in Rochester, Minnesota, which will open in 2027.
