The Department of Physics at New Mexico State University seeks applicants for a tenure-track position at the level of assistant professor in experimental nuclear and hadronic physics. The successful candidate is expected to teach undergraduate and graduate physics and establish an externally-funded research program directly involving graduate and undergraduate students. The NMSU Department of Physics offers Bachelor's degrees in physics and engineering physics and Master's and Doctoral degrees. Current research areas in the department include nuclear/hadronic physics, solid-state/condensed-matter physics, materials science, and optics.
The experimental high-energy nuclear physics group (M. Paolone, B. Duran) pursues research on fundamental properties of the nucleon, nucleon structure, excitation, medium modification, and short-range correlation at national and international labs including the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility and the Paul Scherrer Institute. The theoretical nuclear and particle physics group (M. Engelhardt, M. Sievert, R. Sufian) conducts research in the areas of hot and cold QCD, including hadron structure, lattice QCD, jets, and gluon saturation.
We seek a person who will grow a vigorous, externally-funded research program in strong interaction physics at a US facility and have a deep commitment to both graduate and undergraduate physics education. All candidates must have a Ph.D. degree, at least one year of post-doctoral research experience, and an established record of research and publications in experimental nuclear physics.
