The Department of Physics (physics.ucf.edu) at the University of Central Florida invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track assistant professor, anticipated to begin in August 2024. We seek candidates with experience and research plans in experimental physics with an emphasis on superconductor-based devices for quantum information applications, including, but not limited to, quantum computing, quantum transduction, and quantum sensing. The successful candidate’s research is expected to leverage a recent major investment by UCF in cleanroom facilities for fabrication of state-of-the-art micro- and nano-scale devices. The selected candidate will be expected to establish a vigorous, externally funded, and creative research program and have a strong commitment to excellence in graduate and undergraduate education.
Minimum Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in physics or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution by time of hire, and a substantial record of independent research.
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong research record in the area of superconductor-based devices.
Experience teaching physics at the university level.
Additional Application Materials Required:
UCF requires all applications and supporting documents be submitted electronically through the Human Resources employment opportunities website, https://www.ucf.edu/jobs/. In addition to the online application, interested candidates should upload: 1) a cover letter, 2) a current curriculum vitae (CV), 3) a research statement, 4) a teaching statement, and 5) the names and contact information for three (3) references.
The selected candidate will be required to submit official transcripts (and, as applicable, U.S. degree equivalency evaluations) documenting the conferral of their qualifying academic credentials.
NOTE: Please have all documents ready when applying so they can be simultaneously uploaded. Once the online submission process is finalized, the system does not allow applicants to submit additional documents later.
Screening of applicants will begin on December 15, 2023 and continue until the position is filled.
Questions regarding this search should be directed to Professor Robert Peale, search committee chair, at Robert.Peale@ucf.edu.
