Auger / ESCA/XPS Spectroscopy Engineer
Western Digital (WD) Analytical Services is seeking a subject matter expert in Auger (AES) and ESCA (XPS) analysis, to join our world-class team supporting WD’s research, development, and manufacturing efforts in hard disk drives and solid-state memory components. The successful candidate will join a team of surface scientists, electron microscopists and materials scientists who provide support throughout WD world-wide. WD has a large number of Auger and ESCA tools at a numerous world-wide locations. The person in this position will support all Auger/ESCA analyses at San Jose Analytical Science.
Strong background and hands-on experience in Auger Electron Spectroscopy (AES) and Electron Spectroscopy for Chemical Analysis/X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (ESCA/XPS)
Ph.D. in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, or similar field is preferred. MS graduate with extensive experience will be also considered.
3+ years’ experience, preferably in an industrial setting
Strong problem-solving skills
Superior oral and verbal communication skills
Ability to work in a positive way with peers and customers at all levels
Effectively manage projects/tasks/assignments, showing initiative and meeting expected timeframes
Experience developing new techniques on novel materials
Familiarity with other typical materials and failure analysis techniques
Equipment hardware troubleshooting
Matlab or other simple programming tools
Minitab, LabView and statistical six-sigma tools.
Experience with memory/storage components analysis
Experience with other surface analysis techniques such as TOF-SIMS and WDS is a plus.
