Zap Energy Inc. (ZEI) is developing and commercializing fusion energy technology using stabilized Z-pinches. Fusion energy provides a nearly-limitless and carbon-free source of clean energy. ZEI is currently looking for a Research Engineer to assist in the design, build, testing, and troubleshooting of a broad range of mechanical, electrical, vacuum, and fluid systems. This individual will have the opportunity to be involved in a hands-on way in future development of fusion z-pinch devices, liquid metal wall systems, durable plasma-facing components, and/or repetitive pulsed power systems. This position will work with ZEI scientific, engineering, and technical staff on the design, assembly, fielding, and operations of the next-generation ZEI SFS Z-pinch experiment and associated mechanical, electrical, and fluid systems. The ideal candidate is an organized, inventive problem solver, capable of working through technical challenges and employing sound, pragmatic solutions through team efforts. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States for any employer.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Design, build, test, troubleshoot, and operate mechanical, electrical, vacuum, and fluid systems for z-pinch experiments
Provide general support for design, assembly, fielding, and operations of ZEI research experiments
Reports to Director of Research & Development
Qualifications and Skills:
Bachelor's degree in physics or engineering
Demonstrated ability to complete assigned projects, working with technical staff
Excellent written and communication skills
Proficiency in Solidworks
Experience with soldering, mechanical assembly, electronics, and vacuum systems
Experience in physics/engineering research lab environments
