The Group of Condensed Matter and Complex Systems in the Theoretical Division of Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) has an immediate postdoctoral position opening in the area of computational simulation and theoretical modeling of quantum materials. The opened position provides an opportunity to pursue quantum material discovery. As a material co-design effort in a recently funded National Quantum Science Center, a U.S. DOE hub, the project will be focused to predict and discover novel magnetic and topological materials. It will involve data mining materials databases, computing structural stability with DFT, performing machine learning to identify the most promising candidates, and working closely with experimentalists to refine the design strategy. The successful candidate must have a strong skill in first-principles DFT electronic structure and total energy calculations of electronic or magnetic materials. Experience with data mining in the area of material science is highly desirable. The candidate is required to have good team skills to work closely with the experimental team at LANL. Strong written and oral communication skills, as evidenced by publications and cover letter, are essential.
