AIP Publishing is seeking a Head of Publishing (HoP) who will be responsible for developing and implementing an overall publishing and editorial strategy to sustainably grow AIP Publishing’s impact, influence and financial return to the American Institute of Physics (AIP).
Design, Develop and Implement an overall publishing and editorial strategy to:
Strengthen AIP Publishing’s existing journal portfolio by: driving higher submission volumes, raising journal quality, improving author satisfaction and growing article share across the physical sciences
Build AIP Publishing’s nascent book program into a successful portfolio that profitably increases revenues while developing AIP Publishing’s reputation and brand
Propose, develop and launch new publishing products that meet critical customer needs and strengthen AIP Publishing’s overall publishing portfolio?
Ensure that all production functions meet cost, quality and schedule requirements, and that the highest customer service objectives are achieved.
Collaborate with technology, business development and operations departments to develop and execute a long-term strategic roadmap to enrich content and its presentation as our user needs evolve
Oversee team that manages rights & permissions; ensure that all policies related to author licenses, article copyright, privacy and terms & conditions are up to date and, at a minimum, comply with funder, government and industry wide standards.
Work collaboratively with AIP Publishing’s Executive Leadership Team to:
Develop and implement an OA strategy that sustainably establishes AIP Publishing as a leading Open Science publisher.
Create effective mechanisms that provide a detailed understanding of customer needs, habits and attitudes; and leverage that knowledge to develop/improve new or existing products and services.
Ensure that the publishing strategy and operations help maximize AIP Publishing’s financial return to AIP.
Ideate, innovate, and incubate new products to diversify AIP Publishing’s portfolio beyond journals and books.
Effectively manage AIP Publishing’s publishing organization: Cultivate a culture of excellence, innovation, customer centricity, collaboration and transparency.
A degree (ideally high-level) in a physical science related discipline
At least five years of experience in a senior academic publishing management role
Broad team management experience, with demonstrated ability in change management
New product development experience
Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
Highly developed interpersonal and diplomatic skills; ability to exercise sound judgment in decision-making
Excellent analytical skills with ability to assess complex situations and communicate them effectively
Ability to work collaboratively, influence and build trust
This role will be remote during the pandemic and a hybrid approach following the pandemic. Candidates must have the right to live and work in the United States.
