Engineering and Technology: Engineering, Engineering and Technology: Mechanical, Physics: Fluid Mechanics and Dynamics
1.Postdoctoral Fellow in Soft and Active Matter Physics
A Postdoctoral Fellow position is available at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), Shenzhen, China. Under the joint supervision of Prof. XIA Keqing and WU Yilin from the SUSTech Center for Complex Flows and Soft Matter Research, the candidate will work on research projects broadly related to soft and active matter physics, including but not limited to self-organization and dynamics of complex flows, collective motion in biological systems, mechanics and rheology of active matter, and self-assembly of molecular machines or soft robotics. While candidates with either an experimental or theoretical background are welcome, the successful applicant is expected to collaborate closely with other team members and contribute their expertise in experiment, computation or theory.
2.Postdoctoral Fellow in Astrophysics and Astronomy
Adaptive Mesh Refinement (AMR) is an important technique in numerical simulations when the dynamic range of scales in interest is large; for example, turbulence in molecular cloud and fluid circular motion over a large range of radius. We have developed a magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) code, Scorpio, equipped with functions of, e.g., two-fluid ambipolar diffusion, self-gravity, turbulence driving and AMR. Most of the functions have been widely tested and applied in numerical experiments except for 3D AMR. We are looking for a postdoc researcher to complete the tests of Scorpio AMR and apply it to the projects in SUSTech jointly supervised by Prof. XIA Keqing and Prof. LU Baihua from the SUSTech Center for Complex Flows and Soft Matter Research.
Applicants should have (i) a high-quality PhD degree obtained within the last five years in related fields; (ii) excellent track record in research; (iii) good written and oral skills in English; and (iv) self-motivation and the ability to work independently as well as in a team in an interdisciplinary environment.
We offer (i) excellent working conditions in an inspiring and collaborative environment; (ii) opportunities to participate regularly in diverse scientific activities; and (iii) a competitive compensation package ranging from CNY 300000-450000 per annum.
Please send the following documents for application: (1) Cover letter with a statement of research interest; (2) Curriculum vitae; (3) Contact information of two referees;
Appointment will initially be made on contract basis for two years commencing 2021, renewable subject to mutual agreement.
About Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech)
Established in 2012, the South University of Science and Technology (SUSTC) is a public institution funded by the municipal of Shenzhen, a special economic zone city in China. SUSTC is a pioneer in higher education reform in China. The mission of the University is to become a globally recognized institution which emphasizes academic excellence and promotes innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship. The University currently has over 200 faculty members, and is planning three faculties: Faculty of Science, Faculty of Engineering, and Faculty of Life and Health Science. The target faculty number will be 200 for Science, 300 for Engineering, and 150 for Life and Health Science Faculty.
Shenzhen is a major city located in Southern China, situated immediately north of Hong Kong SAR. As one of China's major gateways to the world, Shenzhen is the country's fast-growing city, the high-tech and manufacturing hub, and home to some of China's most recognized enterprises such as Huawei, Tencent and DJI. As a State-level innovative city, Shenzhen has chosen independent innovation as its development strategy. A picturesque coastal city, Shenzhen is also a popular tourist destination and was named one of the world's 31 must-see tourist destinations in 2010 by The New York Times.
