The Florida State University (FSU) Physics Department invites exceptionally qualified candidates to apply for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level in theoretical nuclear physics with emphasis on the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB). The initial appointment is partially funded by the FRIB Theory Alliance. A successful candidate is expected to make significant contributions to the FRIB science mission.
The nuclear theory group at FSU studies nuclear phenomena at all scales, from the structure and dynamics of single hadrons, to atomic nuclei, to neutron stars. The nuclear theory group benefits from a fruitful synergy with the local experimental groups who conduct research at Jefferson Lab, at the local John D. Fox Nuclear Accelerator Facility, and at user facilities throughout the world.
The FSU Physics Department—with more than 60 research faculty and over 150 graduate students—performs creative and highly visible research in fundamental and applied science, blending fundamental physics and applications, theory and experiment in diverse areas, such as astrophysics, condensed-matter physics, and elementary-particle physics. The successful candidate must hold a Ph.D. degree in physics from an accredited institution and demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse undergraduate and graduate student body, while establishing a well-recognized research program of relevance to the FRIB science mission.
