The University Research Alliance program on Interaction of Ionizing Radiation with Matter (IIRM) at the University of Michigan is seeking a postdoctoral experimentalist to perform optical spectroscopy and characterization of ultrafast interactions on a broad spectrum of materials with ionizing radiation.This new program will study processes that offer promise of significantly improving the resolution and lowering the cost of scintillator-like materials. The successful candidate will be expected to lead an independent investigation assisted by graduate and undergraduate students on topics combining ultrafast spectroscopy, exciplex dynamics, optical materials characterization (rare gases, crystals) and particle detection. Candidates should have a PhD in electrical engineering, physics, engineering physics, chemistry or materials science with prior experience on high energy interactions in ionized systems. They should have familiarity with mode-locked laser systems, ultrafast technology, photon-counting, high frequency electronics, electro-optics and computer interfacing. Start date will be September 2020 or as soon after this date as possible.
