Engineering and Technology: Chemical, Physics: Optics and Laser, Physics: Physics
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities The Division of Chemical and Biological Sciences with Iowa State University at the Ames Laboratory, a Department of Energy National Laboratory affiliated with Iowa State University, is searching for two qualified Postdoctoral Research Associates.
The goal of the research project is to use quantum metrology and entangled photons to realize subdiffraction imaging of non-blinking emitters. This project is a collaborative effort among four research groups that include a team of graduate students and postdoctoral scholars. The duties of the position include the design and construction of a nonlinear subdiffraction optical microscope, and the subsequent application of the instrument to study a variety of samples of relevance to the Department of Energy's mission. The position requires the safe use of Class IV pulsed laser systems. In addition, direct supervision of graduate students, writing manuscripts and other scientific reports are key duties for this position.
The successful candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills and will be expected to communicate effectively to a variety of audiences. The initial appointment will be made for one year, with renewal appointments based on annual performance assessments and availability of funds.
Required Qualifications: Ph.D. must be completed prior to start date.
Ph.D. in a physical science or electrical engineering.
Three or more years of laboratory research experience in experimental and theoretical fundamentals of optics, optical spectroscopy, and/or metrology.
Experience setting up and working with pulsed lasers, microscopy and imaging instrumentation
Demonstrated strong publication history
Experience with Raman spectroscopy and quantum metrology in optical imaging is preferred.
Additional years of experience with non-linear optical spectroscopy or microscopy instrumentation and its application is also preferred.
