The Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) Science and Technology Policy Opportunity offers candidates a chance to participate in research programs integral to the mission of the Solar Energy Technologies Office at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in Washington, D.C. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about the federal government and its role in advancing science and technology. Participants are expected to use their expertise in science and research to help develop and manage solar R&D projects.
Develop leadership skills in science and technology policy by designing and implementing national research and development (R&D) strategies and programs in the following areas:
• Photovoltaic technologies • Concentrating solar-thermal power technologies • Systems integration technologies for solar energy on the electric power grid • Other activities, including technology transfer, strategic analysis, and stakeholder engagement
Eligibility This opportunity is open to talented scientists and engineers with bachelor’s, master’s, or Ph.D. degrees in the physical sciences or engineering, as well as established professionals with relevant post-degree experience. Participants must be a U.S. citizen or have Permanent Resident (Green Card) status.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Solar Energy Technologies Office (SETO) supports early-stage research and development in three technology areas: photovoltaics (PV), concentrating solar power (CSP), and systems integration with the goal of improving the affordability, performance, and value of solar technologies on the grid. SETO funds innovative cooperative research and development projects that drive down the cost of solar electricity and improve the performance of solar technologies that enhance grid reliability and security. SETO is part of the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE).
