We have an opening for a Postdoctoral Research Staff Member to study materials assembly and dissolution at electrochemical and electrified interfaces using a suite of in situ techniques. You will undertake research within a multidisciplinary team of experimentalists and theorists to design experiments that handshake with the modeling team, and bring your own creative insights to the project. This position is in the Nanoscale Integration Science group in the Materials Science Division.
Essential Duties - Contribute to the conception, design, and execution of in situ microscopy, spectroscopy, and electrochemical experiments to study the dynamics of assembly and dissolution at electrified and electrochemical interfaces. - Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to design and develop new methods to enhance reaction rates at interfaces with applications in nanocrystal assembly, mineral growth and metal dissolution. - Collaborate with computational and experimental scientists in a multidisciplinary team environment to accomplish research goals. - Document research; publish papers in peer-reviewed journals, and present results within the DOE community and at conferences. - Pursue independent but complementary research interests and interact with a broad spectrum of researchers within and outside the Laboratory. - Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications - Recent PhD in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering or related field. - Experience in experimental methods to study interfaces, including microscopy and/or spectroscopy and/or electrochemical techniques. - Ability as an innovative experimentalist with a broad range of experience in experimental design, techniques and execution. - Ability to develop independent research projects through publication of peer-reviewed literature. - Proficient verbal and written communication skills as reflected in effective presentations at seminars, meetings and/or teaching lectures. - Initiative and interpersonal skills with desire and ability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment. - Recent record of peer-reviewed publications.
Desired Qualifications - Experience in one or more of the following areas: in situ atomic force microscopy, current or potential sensing electrochemical microscopy, local impedance spectroscopy techniques, and/or in situ synchrotron-based spectroscopy. - Experience with solid-fluid interfaces including designing or modifying fluid cell geometries. - Experience designing/building/testing electronic equipment.

Note: This is a two-year Postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of extension to a maximum of three years. Eligible candidates are recent PhDs within five years of the month of the degree award at time of hire date.
