We are seeking an Aerosol Scientist or Particulate Physicist to join our team in multiple R&D activities supporting the Nuclear Non-Proliferation missions. Specific research areas include Aerosol Sciences and particle physics R&D, filtration systems design and testing, supporting sensor concept design and development, sensor testing, and related modeling and analysis efforts. You will integrate into an established team to perform R&D focused on customer mission requirements through phenomenological understanding to sensor/modeling concept development, design, and analysis in support of these missions. Areas of research focus include development of computational modeling tools and/or research in aerosol sciences detection and measurement systems.
You will work on various systems by performing end-to-end simulations for the evaluation of sensor utility and supporting future sensor designs. You will also have opportunities to perform data analysis and exploitation for purposes including but not limited to sensor development and model validation. Future work will be motivated by your vision, which will include the publication and presentation of significant research findings along with new systems concept designs.
Some travel is required for this role.

You have a master’s degree, or higher, in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Material Science/Engineering, or a related technical discipline
Your background includes lab experience. including experiment design, testing, monitoring/troubleshooting, and data analysis
You possess a strong capability in modeling and simulation, data exploitation, and signal or image processing
You can obtain a DOE Q clearance
Ideally, your background would also include:
Ph. D. (or Master’s with commensurate experience)
Interest and willingness to participate in field tests and experiments
Experience designing, building and working with aerosol science experiments to include advanced filtration systems
Experience with fluid/aerosol instrumentation and/or experimentation (flow meters, pressure gauges, instruments for data acquisition)
Proven understanding of Computational fluid dynamics, fluid mechanics, particle physics and/or material sciences
Experience in analysis of complex coupled physics processes such as radiation hydrodynamics, turbulence, computational fluid dynamics and plasma physics
Experience with running code on high performance computing systems
Application of statistical analysis methods
Excellent communications skills with experience in giving presentations and producing thorough scientific and engineering documentation
Demonstrated ability to constructively work with teams to successfully execute complex projects in a variety of roles (leader and group member)
Some interest or experience in mentoring student interns
Active L or Q security clearance
