The Cluster of Excellence Matter and Light for Quantum Computing (ML4Q) and the Institute of Physics II at the University of Cologne are seeking applications for a
W2 Professorship (with tenure track to W3)
in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics
ML4Q is a cooperation of the universities of Cologne, Aachen, Bonn and the Research Center Jülich. The research cluster is funded by the German Excellence Strategy. The candidate is expected to contribute actively to ML4Q and to extend strategically the research spectrum of experimental condensed matter physics at the University of Cologne.
Research experience in mesoscopic quantum devices such as superconducting or quantumdot qubits, in their coupling to photons, and/or on devices based on topological matter is expected. Possible future research areas include the realization of Majorana qubits and qubit operations. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the main research lines of ML4Q. He or she will actively participate in the teaching of experimental condensed matter physics and quantum technologies. During the current funding period of ML4Q the teaching load is reduced.
An excellent track record in research and teaching is required.
Qualification requirements are in accordance with § 36 of Universities Act of North Rhine-Westphalia.
The University of Cologne is committed to equal opportunities and diversity. Women are expressly encouraged to apply and given priority in accordance with the Equal Opportunities Act of North Rhine-Westphalia (Landesgleichstellungsgesetz – LGG NRW). We also expressly welcome applications from people with special needs or of equivalent status.
Applicants should send a full CV, including proofs of qualification, list of publications, thirdparty funding and teaching experience, a summary of past achievements with a commented list of up to five publications, and a research plan. Applications should be submitted by March 22nd, 2020 via the Academic Job Portal of the University of Cologne (https://professorships.uni-koeln.de) to the
Dean of the Faculty of Mathematic and Natural Sciences
