Assistant Professor (tenure-track) position at Department of Imaging Physics
JOB DESCRIPTION We offer a tenure track position in the field of space optics in the department of Imaging Physics. The department carries out both fundamental and industrially relevant research in the field of optical imaging and sensing. Main topics are achieving super-resolution and extreme high sensitivity using tailored and diverse illumination and detection schemes, in combination with specially designed resonant structures. The aim of the new position is to extend the research portfolio of the department to space optics and to stimulate and sustain a strong collaboration with the SRON Netherlands Institute for Space Research, which will soon move to the proximity of Delft. The assistant professor will be able to define and develop her/his independent research line which can be directed to both Earth observation (relating to atmosphere and climate instrumentation) and to novel optical instrumentation concepts for astronomic applications. The program of SRON, and its views on future science-technology combinations, is anticipated to be beneficial to the research in term of defining clear applications and is expected to lead to joint proposals. The TU Delft has cleanroom facilities which can be used to develop and test new optical structures. For joint research, the cleanroom facilities of SRON are also accessible.
Candidates with an excellent research record in optics who have a convincing vision on realizing a successful research programme in space optics are invited to apply. In addition to research, the position comprises an equal amount of education, including teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels and supervising MSc and PhD students. Also a contribution to organizational tasks is expected. Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and professional experience.

REQUIREMENTS The candidate is expected to:
have a PhD in a relevant area
have an excellent publication record in optics.
have a convincing vision on research in space optics.
foster and sustain a strong collaborating with scientists of SRON.
be able to initiate, obtain external funding, and direct research projects.
have the capability to deliver high-quality and inspiring teaching at the university level, including the supervision of bachelor and MSc students.
contribute to organizational tasks of the department such as outreach and valorization.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Fixed-term contract: 6 years with the prospect of a permanent contract.
At the start of the tenure-track you will be appointed as Assistant Professor for the duration of six years. Section leader, department leaders and you will agree upon expected performance and (soft) skills. You will receive formal feedback on performance and skills during annual assessment meetings and the mid-term evaluation. If the performance and skills are evaluated positively at the end of the tenure track, you will be appointed in a permanent Assistant Professor position.
