The Princeton University Plasma Physics Laboratory, a world-leading fusion energy research center under contract with the U. S. Department of Energy (DOE), invites applications for a postdoctoral position in the Theory Department in the area of quantum computing and its application to plasma-physics research. The successful candidate will theoretically explore the possibility of efficient quantum algorithms for modeling generic plasma-physics phenomena. The development includes mapping basic mathematical operations to the quantum-computer architecture, encoding initial classical data into a quantum state, and designing measurement operations that efficiently produce the required computational output. The successful candidate will also implement quantum algorithms in codes to be run on existing classical emulators of quantum computers. The initial appointment will be for one year, with the possibility of renewal pending satisfactory performance and available funding (for an additional two years).
Developing quantum algorithms; implementing quantum algorithms in code
Strong background in computational plasma physics or quantum computing
General knowledge of plasma and quantum physics
Ph.D. or an equivalent degree in physics, applied mathematics, or closely related disciplines
