Physics: Photonics, Physics: Quantum, Physics: Solid State
The Department of Physics and Materials Science at the University of Memphis, Memphis, TN, USA, is seeking highly qualified individuals for a tenure-track faculty position, at the Assistant Professor level, in the field of Quantum Physics to begin in Fall 2020. The department offers BS and MS programs in physics, with various concentrations, and a joint PhD program in Engineering Physics with the Herff College of Engineering. The current faculty members of the department are actively engaged in experimental and theoretical/computational research in the areas of nanomaterials, biomaterials, biophysics, nanophotonics, and astrophysics.
The successful candidate is expected to develop and maintain a robust and independent research program, receive extramural research funding, effectively teach at undergraduate and graduate levels, mentor both graduate and undergraduate students, contribute to outreach initiatives, and participate in departmental activities. All qualified candidates in the field of quantum physics including quantum materials, quantum devices, quantum optics, and other areas related to quantum information science, are encouraged to apply. The University of Memphis has a wide range of research infrastructure including a microscopy facility, a micro/nanofabrication facility, a wide range of structural and chemical characterization equipment, and a high-performance computing facility.
