Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ), Department of Physics, is seeking to fill a Full Time Professor position beginning January 2020. The successful candidate is expected to strengthen the scientific research program of the Department and have a significant impact in teaching. Located in the warm valley of Cumbayá, in Quito, USFQ is a liberal arts university, leader in research and higher education in Ecuador (http://www.usfq.edu.ec). The areas of research include theoretical an experimental aspects in optics, plasmonics, condensed matter, high energy and particle physics, with newly incorporated equipment and facilities. High quality education is a very important component of this position, therefore, the candidate must show a passionate interest in the transfer of knowledge and the training of young scientists and engineers.
Responsibilities include: teaching physics courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels (for Physics and Engineering programs), supervising graduate and undergraduate students, conducting original scientific research in physics, and collaborating with the Department’s extracurricular activities.
The applicant must hold a PhD in physics and must show proven abilities to conduct independent original research. The candidate must be able to teach in Spanish, at least for basic physics courses. Candidates mastering other Spanish-related languages, such as Italian or Portuguese, will also be considered for the position.
