We have an opening for a Postdoctoral Researcher to play a major role in development of novel physics platforms and radiochemical techniques for the study of nuclear reactions using high energy density laser facilities. You will develop techniques for measuring radioactive isotopes produced during high-energy-density plasma experiments and contribute to a larger effort towards studying nuclear physics in plasma environments. This position is in the Nuclear and Radiochemistry group of the Nuclear and Chemical Sciences Division.
Essential Duties - Develop experimental methods, separation techniques, and analysis approaches needed to collect and isolate radioactive isotopes produced at high-energy laser facilities. - Develop novel experimental methods for inducing nuclear reactions in plasma environments. - Perform fission product analysis from sample collections and associated fission product yield data analysis and interpretation. - Provide input to nuclear theorists on how to model experimental data. - Interact with laser scientists to design methods for heating samples. - Document research, publish papers in peer-reviewed journals, and present results within the DOE community and at conferences. - Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications - Recent PhD in nuclear chemistry, nuclear physics, nuclear engineering, radiochemistry, plasma physics, or related field. - Experience with laboratory instrumentation and associated software controls and designing, assembling, and running nuclear science or high-energy-density plasma experiments. - Ability to develop experimental methods, separation techniques, and analysis approaches needed to collect and isolate radioactive isotopes produced at accelerator facilities. - Experience with charged-particle, gamma-ray, or neutron detectors and radiation counting and their associated data analyses. - Experience in experimental science to help solve a variety of programmatic challenges in national security, with experience in data analysis and interpretation. - Proficient verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment and present and explain technical information.

Security Clearance: This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.
If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.
Note: This is a two-year Postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of extension to a maximum of three years. Eligible candidates are recent PhDs within five years of the month of the degree award at time of hire date.
