The Strongly Correlated Electron Systems at Los Alamos National Laboratory seeks an outstanding scientist to lead the group’s efforts in spectroscopic studies of quantum materials. The successful candidate will be a member of a research team that focuses on discovering and understanding new phenomena in quantum materials. Correlated f-electron-based systems are a particular area of emphasis and studies of magnetism, spin fluctuations and electronic structure often play a crucial role in understanding novel states of matter, including (but not limited to) quantum criticality, topological matter, quantum spin systems, heavy fermion physics, low dimensional physics, spin-orbit coupled systems, and other new phases of matter that often emerge at low temperatures. There exist clear opportunities for a variety of expertise to make an impactful contribution including (but again not limited to) neutrons, X-ray, ARPES and NMR. The candidate will contribute to ongoing technical work as well as to develop and prepare proposals for new research initiatives. The candidate should be able to work effectively as part of a dynamic, multidisciplinary research group, which includes sample growth, characterization, transport and thermodynamic measurements, device fabrication, and measurements under extreme conditions (high pressure, high magnetic fields, and low temperature) to explore new physics through new materials.
