Physics: Atomic and Molecular, Physics: Condensed Matter, Physics: Materials
The International Center for Quantum Materials (ICQM, http://icqm.pku.edu.cn/), Peking University, China, invites applications for tenured/tenure-track faculty positions and postdoctoral positions in the fields of experimental and theoretical condensed matter physics; atomic, molecular, and optical (AMO) physics; solid-state based quantum information science (QIS); material physics and related areas. Established in 2010, ICQM has attracted both internationally-renowned scientists and excellent young researchers from diverse areas of condensed matter, material physics, AMO, and QIS, and enabled them to work together productively. During the next phase of enhancement, the center has a number of faculty lines (tenured and tenure-track faculty members) and around 10 postdoctoral positions open for applications.
Positions and Qualifications
We are seeking exceptional candidates for all levels of faculty positions, including distinguished chair professors, tenured full/associate professors, as well as tenure-track assistant professors. Candidates should have a Ph. D in a relevant discipline, an outstanding record of research accomplishments, and the capability to lead an independent research group. The position offered will be commensurate with individual’s work experience and research track-record. In particular, candidates applying for position of distinguished chair are expected to be internationally influential in a relevant discipline.
We are also seeking qualified candidates for postdoctoral positions. Candidates should have a Ph. D in a relevant discipline or expect a Ph. D within one year, with a substantive record of research accomplishments, and the ability to work collaboratively with faculty members in the center. The research directions and information of prospective advisors can be found in our website: http://icqm.pku.edu.cn/index.html
Salary and Benefits
All newly hired faculty members will be offered competitive startup resources and office/lab spaces. Annual salaries for faculty positions are competitive with US research universities. Annual salary for a distinguished chair professor appointment is to be separately negotiated in each case. Peking University provides employee benefits package.
Postdoctoral fellows will be provided with competitive annual stipends based on individual’s experience and research performance. Housing subsidies will be provided.
Applicants for a faculty position should send full curriculum vitae; copies of 3-5 key publications; three letters of recommendation; and a statement of research to Professor Nanlin Wang at ICQM@pku.edu.cn. Application for a postdoctoral position should be directly addressed to an individual prospective advisor.
About International Center for Quantum Materials, Peking University
The International Center for Quantum Materials (ICQM) was established in 2010 as a major initiative of Peking University. ICQM is committed to academic excellence by investing on cutting-edge research in condensed matter physics and quantum materials. ICQM aspires to become a world class center for research and education.
As an innovative platform for science, ICQM is dedicated to bringing in high-caliber senior scientists and promising young researchers to the center and enabling them to work together productively in a dynamical culture. Amid the fast socio-economical transformation of China, ICQM has successfully implemented an academic system that includes two major components: independent research groups lead by principle investigators (PIs) and tenure review system. At present, ICQM has 29 faculty members (PIs), including 4 Chair Professors, 8 tenured Full Professors, 6 tenured Associated Professors, 11 tenure-track Associate/Assistant Professors. Among the senior researchers are 2 members of Chinese Academy of Sciences and 5 fellows of American Physical Society.
The research at ICQM is organized into 6 divisions according to research interest and expertise, namely
• Lo...w temperature and quantum transport experiments;
• Spintronics and low-dimensional magnetism experiments;
• High-resolution Spectroscopy experiments;
• AMO experiment and precision measurement;
• Theoretical condensed matter physics;
• Computational physics.
Topics of current research activities include quantum transport, strongly-correlated electron systems, low-dimensional quantum systems, topological effects in condensed matter physics, mesoscopic superconducting systems, spintronics, advanced scanning tunneling microscopy, ultra-fast spectroscopy, neutron spectroscopy, ultra-cold atoms, computational simulations for quantum materials, surface dynamics, water behaviors under confinement, and soft matters materials, etc. ICQM consists of 16 experimental laboratories, a public supporting laboratory for physical property measurement, a shared nanofab facility, and a helium center. The PKU Daniel Chee Tsui laboratory is affiliated to ICQM, which works on extremely low temperature physics.
