Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB) is one of Germany’s leading research universities. The University draws its strengths from both the diversity and the proximity of scientific and engineering disciplines on a single, coherent campus. This highly dynamic setting enables students and researchers to work across traditional boundaries of academic subjects and faculties.
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum invites applications for the position of an
Assistant Professorship for Theoretical Physics with Focus on Computational Plasma Physics (W1) with Tenure Track (W2)
to start as soon as possible.
Plasma Physics research at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum covers a wide area, including low-temperature plasmas, basic theoretical plasma research and astrophysical plasmas. Existing and planned research collaborations within the faculty include the Collaborative Research Centre’s CRC 1316 (Transient Atmospheric Pressure Plasmas) and CRC-TR 87 (Pulsed High-Performance Plasmas) as well as the Ruhr Astroparticle and Plasma Physics Center (RAPP Center).
A personality is sought who represents the field of Computational Plasma Physics in research and teaching. A major focus should be the numerical treatment of scale bridging methods, e.g. the coupling of different physical descriptions on different scales. The junior professorship is thus also intended to serve as a bridge to other "multiphysics/multiscale" activities of our faculty and neighboring faculties. An active integration into the Research Department "Plasmas with Complex Interactions" is assumed.
Teaching in Theoretical Physics must be provided in the compulsory and elective areas of all courses of study offered by the faculty. An engagement in the newly established course of studies "Medical Physics" is desired.
A doctorate of outstanding quality, which as a rule should not have been awarded more than five years ago, as well as proof of special aptitude for academic teaching are also required, as is the willingness to participate in academic self-administration.
Furthermore is expected
a pronounced commitment to teaching, enthusiasm and didactic skills for the education of students and the willingness to supervise bachelor's and master's theses;
the readiness for interdisciplinary scientific work;
the willingness and ability to acquire research projects supported by third-party funds.
Ruhr-Universität Bochum is an equal opportunity employer.
Applications with curriculum vitae, list of publications, list of courses held so far, list of third-party funds raised so far as well as a research plan and a teaching concept are requested by 21.10.2019 to the Dean of the Faculty of Physics and Astronomy at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum, D-44780 Bochum. Applications should be sent in electronic form in one pdf-file to: firstname.lastname@example.org. [Further information can be found on our homepage: https://www.physik.ruhr-uni-bochum.de/.]
