The Biomass Science and Technology Department is seeking a creative and driven, Chemical Engineer to work with a multi-disciplinary team of researchers and experts who are passionate about achieving success while solving some of societies most unique challenges. You will utilize your skills as an innovative and creative process engineer to continue to strengthen our biomass program by working on a variety of projects related to producing renewable biofuels and bioproducts from lignocellulosic biomass and algae, including projects in our DOE funded Agile Biofoundry and Joint BioEnergy institute. You will also have the opportunity to expand our program into new areas aligned with your expertise and interests.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
Develop research plans and generate results;
Publish high impact papers and writing proposals to expand our program.
Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or relevant discipline;
5 or more years' relevant experience in process research and development
Experience with the following:
Experimentation for developing separation processes and other unit operations for innovative technologies;
At least one commercial process simulation tool (e.g., ASPENPlus);
Application of transport phenomena, kinetics, and thermodynamics to analysis & development of unit operations;
Conventional (and or/renewable) fuels and chemicals industry.
Advanced degree in Chemical Engineering or a relevant discipline;
Experience with the following:
Conceptual process synthesis and design;
Planning and conducting work to support new process technology development;
Separations involving novel systems, especially those containing ionic liquids and deep eutectic solvents;
Developing new research concepts and successfully presenting them to sponsors;
Writing proposals for government funding agencies, in particular the DOE;
Ability to direct, lead, and mentor early career staff.
The Biomass Science and Conversion Technology department is dedicated to developing and advancing innovative technologies for producing the next generation of biofuels.
