The American Physical Society (APS), the world’s leading association of physicists, is offering a full-time, paid Education & Diversity Summer Intern position based at APS Headquarters in College Park, MD. The intern will work a total of 10 weeks during the summer of 2019. The work schedule will coincide with normal APS hours, mutually agreed upon with the intern's supervisor. The internship will be paid work on an hourly basis. Primarily this individual will be working on, but not necessarily limited to, the redesign of the phystec.org website.
Working with APS staff to update and design department webpages
Updating and writing text related to physics teacher preparation
Additional tasks may involve developing materials to publicize department programs, such as written articles, brochures, or videos.
Other duties may be assigned.
Scope and Relationships
Internal interactions with Programs Department and Communications Department.
Possible external interactions with physics students and faculty or with PhysTEC project partner organizations
Education: Must be a college student or have a college degree, preferably in physics or a physics-related major. Knowledge of teacher education desired but not required.
Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrable graphic design skills
Experience in creating wireframes, storyboards, user flows, process flows, and sitemap
Excellent visual design skills with sensitivity to user-system interaction
Ability to solve problems creatively and effectively
Up-to-date with the latest Web trends, techniques, and technologies
Strong organization, documentation, and prioritization skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in MS Word and Excel.
Ability to adapt to quickly changing schedules.
Ability to work well with interdepartmental teams as well as independently.
