Position Overview: You will be responsible for the design, construction, and operation of laser-based absorption spectroscopy sensor systems for use for experimentation on various aircraft and spacecraft propulsion devices, turbulent combustion flows, reacting and nonreacting hypersonic flows, detonation-based propulsion devices, and energetic materials. You would work with other scientists and engineers to develop new state-of the-art sensor systems and would use these sensors in cutting-edge testing facilities to capture critical information such as gas temperatures and species concentrations which will help advance the development of new aerospace propulsion systems. Additionally, you would be responsible for post-processing captured data and presenting the results to other research collaborators.
Work with a small team to design new absorption-based sensor systems based on our customer requirements
Identify and purchase critical components for these sensors. Prototype, characterize, and package the sensor into a robust system.
Integrate the sensor into the test facility. Support measurement campaigns at that facility to achieve the objectives of the measurement.
Post-process recorded data and present the results in a clear and concise manner to the relevant parties.
Desired Qualifications and Skills:
Bachelor of Science or Master of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry or other relevant STEM-related fields.
Ability to problem solve and troubleshoot issues independently
Basic understanding of spectroscopy and spectroscopic measurement techniques
Experience in the construction and operation of diode-based and/or QCL-based laser systems, fiber-optics components, photodetectors, and data acquisition devices.
Experience with testing in experimental facilities and an understanding of combustion and fluid dynamics is helpful
Familiarity with programing languages such as LabView, MATLAB, Python, etc…
