Assistant, Associate or Full Professor – Initiative for the Theoretical Sciences, Ph.D. Program in Physics Job ID: 19982 Closing Date: Open until filled with review of applications to begin on January 28, 2019
The Graduate Center of the City University of New York has launched an Initiative for the Theoretical Sciences (ITS), with the goal of building a multidisciplinary community of faculty, postdoctoral fellows, students, and visitors, all united by their interest in the mathematical description of nature. We are searching for a faculty member who will help form the core of this community. Successful candidates will be grounded in the traditions of theoretical physics, but may have interests that extend across conventional disciplinary boundaries.
It is expected that the primary appointment will be made through the Ph.D. program in Physics; affiliations with Chemistry, Biology, or other programs can be arranged as appropriate. The position is available at all academic ranks, although it is the preference of the Graduate Center to make appointments at senior level (Associate Professor and above). Applicants are expected to demonstrate an outstanding record of independent research accomplishment and creativity, as well as an interest in mentoring and community building. In particular, faculty recruited in this search will play a crucial role in the further development of ITS, across the full range of intellectual opportunities for theory in the natural sciences. For more information on ITS, visit http://itsatcuny.org.
