The University of South Florida is the only university in the state of Florida that offers a Ph.D. in Applied Physics. Applied Physics provides the bridge between theoretical, fundamental physics concepts and their practical engineering applications. Our emphases on material physics, biomedical physics, and with laser physics, computational physics, and imaging science as enabling technologies, is responsive to these needs. This mission is served by a diverse faculty with expertise in theoretical and applied physics. The curriculum for the Applied Physics program has been developed with the premise that the students need to acquire a strong theoretical background in advanced physical concepts first and then apply this knowledge to technical challenges. The department offers graduate assistantships for PhD students with $23,615 per year plus tuition waiver and health insurance. Qualified candidates in physics or a closely related field (Mathematics or Electrical Engineering) are encouraged to apply for via the link: physics.usf.edu/graduate/ Deadline to apply for Fall 2019 is Feb 1, 2019.
