The Group of Condensed Matter and Complex Systems in the Theoretical Division of Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) has immediate postdoctoral position openings in the area of theoretical modeling and simulation of quantum materials. The positions provide an opportunity to pursue fundamental studies of spectroscopic properties and dynamics in quantum materials (including Dirac and Weyl metals, two-dimensional transition-metal dichalcogenides, strongly correlated electronic systems). One position is focused on theoretical study of transport and nonlinear optical properties of topological Weyl/Dirac semimetals to support as one part of theory efforts for a DOE BES Energy Frontier Research Center. The other position is focused on the theoretical study of strongly correlated systems out of equilibrium to support a LANL R&D project.
The successful candidate must have a strong skill, with an excellent scientific record of publications, in condensed matter theory and modeling of strongly correlated electronic systems and novel functional materials. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in studies of quantum materials using nonequilibrium Green’s function or time-dependent wavefunction framework and/or associated quantum many-body approaches (e.g., DMFT, Exact Diagonalization, and DMRG). The ability to work creatively and independently, as a part of a diverse team, is important. Strong communication and language skills, as evidenced by publications and cover letter, are required.
