Description: Professor Eric Mazur’s Photonics Group at Harvard University seeks a post-doctoral fellow to work on photonic metamaterials with zero refractive index. The goals of this DARPA and NSF-funded project – which is part of an international collaboration with the University of Rochester, UCLA, UPenn, and the University of Ottawa in Canada – is to experimentally and theoretically investigate nonlinear and quantum optical effects in zero-index metamaterials. The position will be filled as soon as possible and will initially be for one year, renewable for additional years depending on satisfactory progress and available funding.
Duties and Responsibilities: Working together with a team of physicists and engineers, the candidate will be responsible for directing projects related to linear, nonlinear, and quantum measurements of zero-index photonic platforms. The research will involve optical characterization, interferometry, and measurements relevant to quantum optics (Hanbury Brown-Twiss, fluorescence lifetime measurements, etc.). We desire a candidate with strong executive and teamwork skills to mentor two graduate students.
Qualifications: A Ph.D. in physics, applied physics, electrical engineering, or related field and expertise in photonics and quantum optics is required. In particular, we are looking for someone with experimental skills for optical characterization, interferometry, and measurements relevant to quantum optics. Excellent management and communication skills are essential. Skills in simulation and fabrication are also desired, but not required.
