Do you want to join a dynamic team that solves challenging issues for nation's security?** The Applied Photonic Microsystems Department is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Appointee with an emphasis in nano photonic and micro photonic technologies\. On any given day, you may be called on to: + Support research involving nano photonics and nonlinear optics\.+ Support research in areas including infrared metamaterials, active plasmonic, infrared devices, and other optical technologies\.+ Design, simulate, fabricate, and/or characterize novel optical devices, materials, and systems\.+ Study new physics phenomenon and evaluate new concepts\.+ Report research results in top\-tier journals and conferences\.+ Generate new intellectual property through patent filing\. Required: + You have a Ph\.D\. degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other related discipline, conferred within five years prior to employment\.+ Your background includes experience in the design, simulation and characterization of infrared metamaterials or plasmonic devices\.+ Your skillset includes experience with finite element method tools, such as COMSOL, Matlab/Simulink, or similar packages\. Desired: Ideally, we would like to see your background include some of the following: + Expertise in optoelectronic devices, nanophotonics, nonlinear optics, or related topics\.+ Experience performing original research, demonstrated through a record of invention, original publication in top\-tier journals, and conference papers and presentations\.+ Familiarity with the following: CMOS device physics and thermal physics and radiometry with experience in advanced electrical testing procedures\.+ Experience in designing and modifying vacuum systems\.+ Experience in design and simulation of novel optical structures and devices with commercial and custom codes and in fabrication methods\.+ Experience in infrared optical test and characterization techniques, associated optics, detectors, and spectroscopies\.+ Familiarity with laboratory optical bench optics, electronics, optoelectronics, and safe use of lasers; able to design and carry out laser\-based optical experiments\.+ Expertise in Matlab for lab automation and GUI development\.+ Self\-motivated, with strong communications skills and the ability to work both independently and in a team environment\.
