The Deputy Executive Director/Secretary (DED) is an officer of the Corporation, appointed by the URA Board of Trustees, and a member of the URA executive management team. The DED is a member of a small corporate team and works with and through the Executive Director in supporting and implementing all aspects of corporate office responsibility to the Board of Trustees and assists in formulating URA policy and strategy. He/she contributes to the effective management of URA financial, human and physical resources both at URA headquarters and the URA Sandia Site Office.
DED represents and speaks for URA at meetings that require URA representation at the highest levels in Washington, D.C. (e.g. White House, Cabinet and Agency Officers, Members of Congress) and elsewhere. As Corporate Secretary, he/she is responsible for the integrity and accuracy of Corporate records and contributes to the effective URA organization and staffing and to the effective and efficient management of financial planning, and grant and contract administration. The Deputy Executive Director assists the Executive Director in all aspects of his/her responsibilities to the Board and ensures that the Board is fully and timely informed of any important URA activities and helps manage Board meetings and the annual Council of Presidents (COP) meeting.

The position requires a minimum of ten years high level executive experience in science-related policy and management, particularly within the federal context, and familiarity with the academic community. An advanced degree, such as a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline, is strongly preferred, as is the ability to obtain/maintain a DOE security clearance. The Deputy Executive Director must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
