The Division of Materials Science and Engineering with Iowa State University at the Ames Laboratory, a Department of Energy National Laboratory affiliated with Iowa State University, is searching for a qualified Postdoctoral Research Associate.
The position will focus on the application of elastic and inelastic neutron and x-ray scattering techniques for the study of quantum materials. The scope of research includes the investigation of the changes in crystal and magnetic structures associated with, or leading to, interesting and novel behavior in materials and the study of magnetic excitations in quantum phases. Current projects include work on the high-temperature iron pnictide superconductors and related compounds, topological materials, the origin and impact of magnetic frustration, and the modification of magnetic interactions under pressure and uniaxial strain.
The ideal candidate is able to communicate effectively to a wide variety of audiences.
Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in physics or a closely related field. Ph.D. must be completed prior to start date.
Preferred qualifications: 1) Two years of experience in neutron and/or x-ray scattering methods. 2) Demonstrated experience using inelastic neutron scattering to study magnetic excitations.
Interested candidates should submit 1) a cover letter detailing specific experience; 2) current C.V.; and 3) contact information for three (3) references to: CCLEMpostdoc@ameslab.gov
