The Advanced Fuzing Technology (02627) Department has an opening for a motivated and dedicated R&D S&E, Electronics Engineering to support development, testing, and delivery of electrical components as well as perform engineering analysis and algorithm development to support research for Department of Defense (DoD) technology development programs.
Your work will include the design of specialized firing sets for use in embedded fuzes, developing and advancing fuzing algorithms using various sensing methodologies and implementing and testing embedded fuze designs. Department 02627 also has significant partnerships with other Sandia centers and is responsible for electronic component design for various flight experiments for internal SNL SPP customers to support DoD programs.
You will work independently and with multi-disciplinary teams across organizational boundaries (both internal and external to Sandia). You will be self-motivated and directed, customer-focused and adaptable to working in a fast-paced team environment.
On any given day you may be asked to:
Support electrical components design for DoD flight experimentation programs involving high speed digital interfaces
Support the design of high voltage firing sets for multiple 2627 customers, both internal Sandia customers and external DoD customers
Interface with department technologists to prototype, test and debug development hardware
Update design definition and documentation for electrical components owned by the department
Support the testing and evaluation of hardware to ensure it meets requirements
Support the development of testers for electrical components or flight hardware subsystems
Report technical progress, as well as inform on schedule status and cost projections for component designs
Work with a diverse set of partners and sponsors (Kansas City National Security Campus, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Sandia/CA, DoD OSD, US Air Force Research Lab) to build, characterize and test hardware
Some travel (up to 20%) will be required.

A Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering
Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-Level security clearance.
Experience in one or more of the following: high speed digital design, high voltage analog design, board or component level circuit design, and signal/data processing.
Experience in electronics testing and debugging, including experience with LabView development and PXI tester design.
Familiarity with flight hardware design requirements and qualification testing.
Familiarity with the Nuclear Weapons (NW) development process, including building mark quality NW products
A successful record working in team driven environment, across a wide variety of disciplines (software, hardware, mechanical, packaging, etc.) to integrate designs into a system
Proven ability to meet landmarks within cost, schedule, and performance requirements
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Active DOE Q-level security clearance
Ability to obtain and maintain Sigma 15 access.
Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) granted Q-level security clearance.
