Sweet Briar College invites applications for a one-year faculty position in Computer Science. Candidate will be a passionate advocate for women in computer and data science to provide direction as SBC establishes a CS/data science program. The successful incumbent will lead curriculum development and program planning, engage with faculty and staff across multiple areas at the college around CS/data science, and teach courses in CS, the number depending on the candidate’s potential for program leadership. Typical load for a program leader is 3- 4 courses per year.
The position is open rank and is for the 2018-2019 academic year with an expected August start date, though there may be flexibility with the start and end dates for the position. The role may be ideal for a person on sabbatical, retired, or a person working in industry interested in a career change. This position offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience. The position could be renewed or converted to a tenure-line program director position.
The successful candidate will be an engaged scholar-teacher who will communicate with colleagues across different disciplines and will participate in campus academic life. Ph.D. in CS (or related field) or Master’s degree in CS (or related field) with industry experience;
Broad understanding of issues related to attracting women to computer science;
Experience in curriculum development;
Commitment to a student-centered learning environment; and
Interest with community outreach in computer science.
Employer will assist with relocation costs.
