The Department of Physics at North Carolina A&T State University invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in the field of computational physics, starting in August 2018. The appointment is expected to be at the assistant professor level. An appointment at a higher rank might be considered for exceptionally qualified applicants. In particular the Department is seeking qualified candidates who can develop a research program in computational physics with an emphasis on soft matter, biological physics, or dynamical systems. The appointment will be at the rank of assistant or associate professor depending on qualifications and experience. The Department of Physics is an active department with eleven faculty who are heavily engaged in research areas that include experimental nuclear physics, experimental and theoretical chemical physics, atmospheric sciences and meteorology, and condensed matter physics. The department serves both graduate and undergraduate students.
The hired faculty is expected to show commitment to teaching excellence. She/he is expected to teach physics courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels, develop courses and Physics curricula, direct students in research, and provide service to the University and community.
The ideal candidate will establish and maintain a vigorous funded research program in computational physics, preferably with an emphasis on soft matter, biological physics, or dynamical systems; collaborate closely with other science and engineering departments; direct the research activities of graduate students. Mentoring undergraduate research students is also expected. Physics majors in the Department follow a curriculum where students are encouraged to conduct research and develop their critical thinking and ability to innovate. A candidate whose teaching and research efforts will promote the mission of the Physics Department and the strategic vision of the College of Science and Technology (COST) as well as the University is highly desired. Collaboration with colleagues from the sciences, mathematics, and other technology areas is expected. Service to the Department, the College, and the University is also a requirement of the position. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, engaging in accreditation procedures, program assessment and service to the department, College and University as needed.
Candidates must have earned a PhD in Physics with specialization in the area of computational physics by the anticipated date of appointment.
Candidates with the following experience and/or training are preferred: Postdoctoral experience Demonstrated record of research in computational physics are preferred Ability to develop a research program in the area of computational physics with an emphasis on soft matter, biological physics, or dynamical systems
