: What Your Job Will Be Like The United States National Data Center \(US NDC\) Modernization project is a large\-scale re\-development effort to modernize the US NDC for the Air Force Technical Applications Center \(AFTAC\)\. Sandia has worked with AFTAC for several years to define requirements and architectural design for the modernized system\. On any given day, you may be called on to: Conduct research and development to advance the leading edge of computer science applications and computer systems technologies, by designing, building, and deploying essential systems that transform data into decisions at all levels of national security As a part of a scrum team, design, build, implement and test software systems which solve the most challenging explosion monitoring problems, including large\-scale data management, processing, exploitation, visualization and distribution of real\-time geophysical data sources\. Contribute to deeply rewarding missions through engagement with diverse computer science specialties and domain experts in areas such as data fusion, signal and image processing, data mining, cloud computing, machine learning, modeling and simulation, service\-oriented architectures, big data management and visualization, pattern recognition, seismology, and geophysics\. Required:
Requires a **bachelor's and master's** degree in relevant **STEM** discipline plus two or more years experience; or **bachelor's and doctorate** in relevant **STEM** discipline\. The requirement for a **STEM** Master's degree can be waived for candidates with a **bachelor's** in a relevant **STEM** discipline and 4 years experience\.
Experience in software design, engineering and development skills, including familiarity with modern software development practices and tools\.
Experience with object\-oriented software development using Java Desired:
Knowledge and experience with implementation of the full software development life cycle using iterative or agile methods\.
Proficiency in a subset of the following: requirements capture, hardware and software architectural design, software modeling using UML, systems\-level software testing, high consequence anomaly resolution, documentation and training, information assurance, and deployment of delivered systems\.
Experience/education in research and development efforts using a subset of the following: system engineering, hardware and software architecture, distributed system design, data exploitation/mining/fusion algorithms, digital signal processing, image processing, optical systems, command and control systems, numerical analysis, modeling and simulation, relational/object/geographic database technologies, user interfaces, scientific data visualization, web services technologies, and software development for multi\-core/GPU/parallel computing\.
Experience with relevant application and mission domains \(geophysics, ground systems/data centers/operations centers, remote sensing, sensor technologies, proliferation detection, monitoring and surveillance\)\.
Experience with large, complex scientific and technical software systems engineering, development and deployment\.
Relevant professional certifications \(e\.g\., Project Management Professional, Certified Information Systems Security Professional, Certified Systems Engineering Professional\)\.
Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance
Demonstrated ability to develop and present ideas and results in oral and written form\.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative and interdisciplinary team environment\.
Experience developing software in a Linux environment\. Department Description: Department 6361 develops operational monitoring software in supports of the US and International nuclear monitoring and non\-proliferation mission\.
