: The Pulsed Power Accelerator Science and Technology Group in the Pulsed Power Sciences Center is seeking a Level 1 Manager for the Advanced Radiographic Technologies Department\. This department develops pulsed power technologies and systems for flash radiographic sources used in hydrodynamic and sub\-critical experiments\. The primary area of work of the department for the next 4\-5 years will be a fast\-paced project to deliver a novel pulsed power injector for a linear induction accelerator to be sited underground at the U1a facility in Nevada\. There will also be opportunities to contribute to other initiatives throughout the center such as improvements to the Z facility pulsed power, the design and execution of projects that support next generation pulsed power drivers such as Z Next and Neptune\. On any given day you may be called on to: + Serve as the Sandia Site Team Lead \(STL\) for the Enhanced Capabilities for Sub\-Critical Experiments \(ECSE\) Project\. This project is led by LANL and will construct the underground U1a facility and its flash radiographic source; - Coordinate all Sandia ECSE activities \(technical work, budgeting, financial tracking, project controls\) with the LANL Project Office- Acquire and manage resources \(people and facilities\) as needed for the ECSE project work at Sandia- This requires coordinating mechanical engineering and project control resources with the Pulsed Power Engineering Department- Plan and coordinate ECSE work with LANL, LLNL and NNSS\. Collaborations with these laboratories will be extensive- Develop and manage contracts, as needed, for the ECSE project\. These will involve research, development, assembly and manufacturing tasks- Travel 1\-2 times per month is required, primarily to LANL, LLNL and Nevada+ Lead and direct the department's pulsed power staff and technologists to achieve new, innovative pulsed power capabilities through rapid cycles of learning+ Lead the department members to design safe and reliable operations as new pulsed power systems and applications are developed on short time\-scales\. The focus will be on innovative engineered controls with a mindset of continuous improvement and mission success+ Provide strategic direction and oversight for the Nevada Support Team which manages Sandia's remote site at Nevada and provides pulsed power staff and technologists for U1a's Cygnus radiographic source\. The technical work is evolving to also support the ECSE facility+ Provide oversight for approximately 15 NNSS personnel permanently located at SNL/NM supporting Pulsed Power Sciences and ECSE projects as DOE Colleagues and working under SNL work planning and controls policies+ Work with Senior management to define and implement the long\-term Strategy for the Department, developing yearly budgets, staffing plans and technical goals to execute that strategy Required: + Bachelor's and Master's degree in a relevant STEM discipline, plus at least 8 years of professional experience, or a Bachelor's degree with equivalent and relevant experience+ Experience leading complex R&D projects or processes including experience with moderate hazard facility operations and/or formal conduct of operations+ Project management experience including work planning & control for moderate\-rigor activities+ Knowledge of pulsed power/accelerator technology Desired: + PhD in Physics, Nuclear Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related scientific discipline with at least 4 years of professional experience+ Demonstrated ability to lead or contribute to multi\-disciplinary teams, meet customer needs, and interface with cross\-functional organizations with diverse levels of personnel+ Demonstrated ability to collaborate successfully in executing projects that involve work at multiple laboratories+ At least 2 years of line management experience involving moderate\-rigor activities+ Experience with radiation generating devices+ Excellent written and oral communication skills Department Description: This department develops pulsed power technologies and systems for flash radiographic sources used in hydrodynamic and sub\-critical experiments\.
