The Department of Applied Physics and Applied Mathematics at The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science of Columbia University in the City of New York invites applications for an Associate Research Scientist to work in the Volpe Research Group.
The successful candidate will explore the role of computational modeling to test the feasibility of a novel plasma-based source of ions for particle accelerators under my supervision. More specifically, the successful candidate will be involved with particle and field-line tracing in stellarator configurations, and modeling of ionization, recombination and other processes. All candidates are expected to be able to work well in a team and to effectively communicate results of their research both orally and in writing.
Minimum Qualifications A Ph.D. (or equivalent professional degree) in plasma physics or a related field, and experience with different computer environments and languages especially Python, IDL, FORTRAN, UNIX/Linux and Windows operating systems.
Preferred Qualifications Familiarity of working with experimental data for direct application/comparison to theory
