: We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to apply computational mechanics approaches to develop resolution of engineering challenges in Sandia's mission areas and support on\-going activities across the research\-development\-application spectrum of modeling and simulation in the department\. Key functions of this role include, but are not limited to: + Application of the principles of solid mechanics and use of advanced computational finite\-element methods to provide engineering solutions+ Prediction of complex, nonlinear material behavior from deformation to failure in multi\-physics environments, full\-system scale finite element modeling of transient dynamic events \(e\.g\. crash, crush and impact\), and quantification of margins and uncertainties associated with structural simulation and mechanical analysis+ Working closely with other computational and experimental mechanics subject matter experts+ Partnering with staff in the multi\-physics code development teams to drive technical innovation to robust predictive capabilities Required: + Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline AND Master's in or a relevant STEM discipline+ Experience in the foundations of solid mechanics, including strength of materials, continuum mechanics, and material mechanics+ Experience performing mechanical finite element calculations to study large deformation and failure of material under complicated loading conditions+ Experience with computational mechanics techniques and methodologies+ Good communication skills as evidenced by a history of publication of results in peer\-reviewed journals and external presentations at appropriate scientific conferences+ Current, active DoE Q clearance Desired: + Experience with Sandia's simulation code Sierra Solid Mechanics and/or commercial finite\-element software such as Abaqus+ Knowledge of uncertainty quantification \(UQ\) techniques+ Experience working with experimentalists and/or test engineers+ Experience with program management or leading projects Department Description: The Solid Mechanics Department applies its expertise in computational solid mechanics to provide the best engineering solutions to our customers\.
