West Chester University of Pennsylvania Center for Microanalysis, Imaging Research & Training (CMIRT) and Department of Chemistry is seeking a laboratory coordinator. The Department of Chemistry is ACS-approved and has an excellent reputation of providing the highest quality of chemical education to undergraduate students. Responsibilities will include maintaining the daily operations of the microanalysis center and the teaching laboratories in the Department of Chemistry. The successful candidate with work closely with faculty, staff and students to support both instruction and research. The candidate must be qualified to operate spectroscopy and microscopy instrumentation such as SEM, EDS, TEM and XRD. Responsibilities include:
Provides direct support for routine daily and preventative maintenance of instruments including managing service contracts and arranging for non-routine repairs.
Works with Chemistry faculty to maintain a set of working experiments for introductory chemistry labs.
Assists faculty members and students with use and application of all instruments and associated software.
Maintains an up-to-date record of chemicals, scientific supplies and costs of various items used in labs.
Ensures that all established safety protocols are followed.
Master's degree in Chemistry, Geology, Biology, Physics or related sciences or engineering is required (Ph. D preferred).
The successful candidate must demonstrate a strong background in chemistry and microanalysis including electron microscopy through academic training and research. Preference will be given to individuals with a demonstrated record working in a multidisciplinary environment and the ability to support both instruction and research.
